Our Programs - Education Sponsorship
Children's Education Foundation - Vietnam
Most of the work of our charity in Vietnam is our Education Sponsorship Program with its aim of keeping girls in school until they complete their education. Our CEF children are orphaned, from poor families or they have very difficult family circumstances. This means the carer or family often are unable to keep the girls in school. The best way we can help these girls is with a long-term commitment to their education.
CEF's education sponsorship program has been helping girls to stay in school in Thai Binh Province in the north, Da Nang City and Quang Nam Province in the center of Vietnam. Our project in Thai Binh Province is complete now.
The children CEF accepts into the sponsorship program are in need of educational support to be able to complete their education. We are committed to seeing them finish high school and we too ask those who wish to sponsor to have the same commitment.
Sponsorships are US$260/$320/$385 depending on the class of the child.
Quang Nam Education Program
Quang Nam is a large province with the South China Sea to the east, Laos to the west, Da Nang and Hue to the north and the provinces of Quang Ngai and Kontum to the south. Most of this low-lying coastal province is vulnerable to the full force of the typhoons and the flooding and destruction they bring, especially on the poor. To the west the land is hilly and forested making access hard and reducing productivity. Because there is little agricultural land that can be used all year round, farmers struggle to make a reasonable living. Two crops can be grown each year, but may be lost due to the harsh conditions. The incomes of families vary from zero to US$100 per month. Some of the children have lost one or both of their parents and many are being cared for by grandparents or aunts and uncles. The children mainly come from fishing and farming communities.
Da Nang Education Program
Da Nang is a coastal city in central Vietnam. We started by helping families from an isolated leper community. These families have now been moved from their homeland for development purposes and some have been well compensated. CEF continued to help those that were not and now only helps two families. CEF's education program has developed to help others outside this community. Most of those we help are from fishing families.
Thai Binh Education Program
This project of our charity in Vietnam is now complete. The children we helped from this northern province of Thai Binh were in and around Phuc Le commune. Some had only one parent, others had a parent with a disability and a few lived with grandparents in cases where both parents had died.
Most of the villagers were rice farmers and managed to grow sufficient rice and vegetables for themselves, but not enough to sell. Some families changed some of their rice fields to fish farms and to rearing pigs or rabbits to supplement their incomes. Because it was so difficult for them to earn a living there to sustain themselves and their families, a few parents were permanently absent working in large cities. It was not uncommon for parents never to return, while others were absent for long periods and send money home.
