University Education Fund
At present we have 38 students in university, studying a variety of subjects including medicine, law, accounting, nutrition, food manufacturing and technology, IT, chain supply management, teacher training and foreign languages (Russian, English, Korean, Japanese and Chinese).
University costs vary depending on the subject and where they are studying. For example, the costs of studying in Tam Ky in Quang Nam province are low, but those in Ho Chi Minh City are high, both for tuition and living expenses. Studying medicine or architectures is expensive, whereas teacher training is an inexpensive course.
Another factor is whether the student can find part time work to help with their living costs. In most cities, for instance in Da Nang, Tam Ky, Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City, it is easy. But when our students study in Hue they have a challenge finding work because it is a small city, and those who come from Quang Nam are sometimes refused work because they have a different accent.
Students can apply for student loans in term two if they aren't an orphan, but a parent has to sign the paperwork. Although the loan is not a debt parents take on, some of them refuse to sign, denying their child a university education.
Basically, for a poor student, the dream of going to university often remains just that, a dream.
The CEF University Education Fund was created to help students fulfill their desire for higher education. When their sponsor from high school can't afford to help with their university education costs, CEF can step in and assist them.
So that more students can be helped, this fund offers the student 25% as a loan, which they start paying back once they are earning, and 75% of the amount they need for their university education as a gift.
All our university students also receive mentoring and attend workshops that provide them with essential information on topics such as female health care, family planning, budgeting and human trafficking. We also provide our university students with good secondhand computers.
We hope that you will be interested in supporting this important fund that enables the students CEF supports to be better educated and have a future with more opportunities.
